They almost finished last in the last edition of IPL had it not been for Dhoni who hit two sixes of last two balls when Pune needed 12 runs off two balls to win the match. Going into the tenth edition of the IPL, this is going to be the first time ever Dhoni not captaining an IPL side. Steve Smith has been given the responsibility of leading the side after they finished seventh in the last edition.
Supergiants have their own concern going into this year’s IPL. A few players have been ruled out before the start of the series.
Ravichandran Ashwin: The Indian off-spinner has been ruled out of the tournament because of sports hernia.
Mitchell Marsh: The junior Marsh is also sidelined of the tournament because of a shoulder injury. Pune has roped in Imran Tahir as a replacement of Marsh.
There were concerns that Ben Stokes might play only the first half of the tournament but ECB have given him permission to skip Ireland ODIs but he will have to return on 14th of May and RPS would miss his services if they qualify for the playoffs.
RPS has also acquired right arm pacer Shardul Thakur from Kings XI Punjab after this year’s auction.
